Refinery & Petrochemical Business Unit

Together with Petkim, which joined the SOCAR Türkiye portfolio in 2008, SOCAR Ticaret, SOCAR Storage, STAR Refinery, Petkim WPP brands, and SOCAR AVIATION and SOCAR MARINE subsidiaries operate under the Refinery & Petrochemical Business Unit.

Heart of the Industry

The petrochemical sector has a strategic role in the production processes of all industries, from construction to agriculture, from textiles to pharmaceuticals, and acts as a locomotive for countries to establish a strong economy that is not dependent on foreign sources by supplying raw materials to numerous sectors. Petkim, the flagship of SOCAR Türkiye, has been active in the petrochemical industry since 1965, and today it alone meets approximately 11% of Türkiye's petrochemical product needs. Petkim, Türkiye's first and only integrated petrochemical facility, produces more than 60 products for many industries, with an annual gross production capacity of 3.6 million tons. Another sector leader, STAR Refinery, with its annual crude oil processing capacity of 12 million tons, meets 19.5% of Türkiye's processed oil needs and almost all of Petkim's raw material needs with approximately 1.6 million tons of naphtha annually.

Major breakthrough for integration

As a result of the refinery-petrochemistry integration achieved with the innovation of SOCAR Türkiye, the high-quality naphtha is supplied to Petkim by STAR Refinery via a direct pipeline. While Petkim saves on logistics costs, it also ensures the continuity of its raw material needs. SOCAR Storage, integrated into STAR Refinery with pipes in 2018, significantly increased the storage capacity of STAR Refinery with 530 thousand cubic meters of fuel products and 45 thousand cubic meters of LPG storage volume. Thanks to the joint management of the integrated facilities, efficiency in production and storage rings are maximized.

We grow together

SOCAR Ticaret continues to expand the service portfolio of the Refinery & Petrochemical Business Unit, which sells aviation, marine fuel, and fuel oil to leading companies in Türkiye through SOCAR Fuel Stations, SOCAR Marine, and SOCAR Aviation subsidiaries. While SOCAR provides services to consumers across Türkiye with a total of 109 fuel stations in the fuel distribution sector, SOCAR Marine meets more than a quarter of international marine fuel demand with a market share of 26%

SOCAR Aviation, on the other hand, operates at the ten busiest airports of Türkiye, such as Istanbul, Sabiha Gökçen, Ankara, Antalya, Izmir, Trabzon, Bodrum, Dalaman, Samsun, Adana, and is the leading fuel supplier of Turkish Airlines in 9 of these airports.

"The Turkish petrochemical market is one of the fastest growing markets in the world with a growth rate of 11%. Exporting only to 6,000 SMEs in Türkiye and 78 countries around the world, Petkim continues to create added value internationally as an active player in the market."
