SOCAR Türkiye R&D
Established by Petkim in 1969, the R&D center has been operating under SOCAR Türkiye Research Development and Innovation Inc. since December 2019. SOCAR Türkiye R&D develops innovative, sustainable, environmentally friendly, market-oriented products and digital technologies. With more than 55 years of experience, the company provides R&D services to SOCAR Türkiye and its group companies with the R&D center certificate issued by the Ministry of Industry and Technology on 12 June 2020.
Sustainable Technologies
Located on the Refinery and Petrochemical Business Unit campus in Aliaga, the R&D center offers innovative products and technologies with a total of 6 laboratories, a 400-square-meter pilot facility, and offices. The company's fields of activity include catalyst research, green chemistry, sustainable, clean, and efficient energy, value-added products, new application area and product development, product improvement, digital transformation, the efficiency of production processes, and environmental solutions.
University Collaborations
SOCAR Türkiye R&D and Innovation Center works with more than 30 national and international universities and institutes to establish strong university-industry collaborations with the open innovation model it has adopted. Studies carried out within this scope focus on technologies that will increase efficiency and develop cost and competitive advantage for all SOCAR Türkiye group companies and the energy sector.
Projects Supported by the European Union
SOCAR Türkiye R&D and Innovation Co. has six projects that have been awarded funding by the European Union. Among these, the CARMOF, CO2Fokus, and LOUISE projects within the framework of Horizon 2020 focus on the development of carbon capture, storage, and utilization technologies, while the NEFERTITI project aims to produce valuable chemicals from concentrated solar energy. In addition, the Circular TwAIn and ALGAESOL projects developed within the scope of the Horizon Europe program and awarded funding, focus on digital and renewable fuel technologies.
Network Memberships in EU Projects
Hydrogen Europe
SOCAR Türkiye R&D has become a member of H2EUROPE, which supports the European hydrogen industry in its global carbon neutralization targets. The Group comprises more than 350 European companies and 103 research centers, and stakeholders with a common goal of a carbon-neutral economy. Coordination groups within the organization are working on deploying clean H2 technologies, H2 market development, establishing an integrated H2 infrastructure, and financial support of H2 projects.
A.SPIRE
SOCAR Türkiye R&D completed its membership process to SPIRE, which supports sustainable and efficient energy targets. The cross-industry Research and Innovation partnership portal SPIRE brings together process industry companies, industry associations, and leading research and technology organizations.
Nationally Supported Projects
SOCAR Türkiye R&D's project application titled 'Development of Domestic and Original Design, Material, Production and Bench Technologies for 3D-Additive Manufacturing' within the scope of TÜBİTAK-SAYEM received high marks from all referees and was entitled to be supported. 23 project partner companies and universities are world-renowned and experts in their fields.
Companies such as ASELSAN Electronic Industry, ROKETSAN Rocket Industry, FORD Automotive Industry, TUSAŞ Turkish Aerospace Industry Inc., Ermaksan Makine Sanayi, Middle East Technical University, Koç University, Gazi University, Sabancı University, Fatih Sultan Mehmet University are in this ecosystem.
