The Strategic Power of Diversity in a Changing World
March 8, International Women's Day, is not just a day of awareness, but an important milestone that reflects on the cultural transformation and leadership approach of organizations. Today, the sustainable success of companies is also evaluated based on the extent to which they can implement the principles of diversity, equality, and inclusivity beyond financial indicators.
Research shows that teams with diverse perspectives make more innovative decisions, have stronger problem-solving capabilities, and demonstrate more resilient performance during times of crisis. For this reason, gender balance is now recognized not only as a social responsibility issue but also as a fundamental component of corporate performance, innovation, and long-term growth.
The work carried out at SOCAR Türkiye is also informed by this understanding. The “Our Energy is Diversity” and “Woman Energy” initiatives are positioned as a long-term transformation program that aims to increase the representation of women in the workplace, support their leadership journeys, and create an inclusive corporate culture.
Concrete Progress: Transformation Empowered by Data
Following the launch of these initiatives in 2021, the percentage of female employees across SOCAR Türkiye and its group companies increased by 6%. The 40% growth in female employee representation at Petkim was one of the key indicators of the transformation on the ground.
Not only did employment rates increase, but leadership representation also strengthened. The representation of women across all management levels increased by 40%. The number of female board members nearly tripled, demonstrating greater diversity in decision-making mechanisms.
This progress is seen as the result of a systematic transformation driven by measurable goals, regular monitoring, and corporate ownership, rather than a one-off project approach.
Women's Power in the Leadership Journey
The Women Successors' Development Acceleration Program, implemented to ensure greater representation of women in management and critical positions, focuses on supporting female leadership candidates within the company who are being prepared for important roles they will assume in the future. Potential female leaders identified for critical roles are empowered through competency development programs, coaching processes, and experience-sharing platforms.
Each year, approximately 20 female employees are included in this development journey, systematically preparing them for leadership responsibilities. Thus, the goal is to support women's representation not only through numerical growth but also through a planned and sustainable development process.
Power Extending from the Organization to Society
SOCAR Türkiye’s approach does not limit women's empowerment to internal organizational practices. Collaborations with platforms such as KAGİDER, YenidenBiz, and BinYaprak support the career journeys of female professionals.
The opening of the BinYaprak platform to employees and our support for the Million Women Mentor program resulted in over 150 applications, demonstrating strong interest in this area. The “Women's Energy in Entrepreneurship Program,” implemented in collaboration with GİRVAK, contributes to economic and social empowerment by providing training in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and digital skills to women living in Aliağa, Izmir, who are neither in education nor employment.
As a reflection of these efforts, SOCAR Türkiye was awarded the KAGİDER FEM Certificate.
