SOCAR, the biggest direct foreign investor of Turkey, won the tender for 9 gas stations in Istanbul Airport, which will be the world's largest airport when completed.
SOCAR Turkey won the tender of 9 gas stations in Istanbul Airport, of which the first phase was opened on October 29 with a huge ceremony. The new stations, which are located in the airport zone and apron, will meet the fuel demands of consumers, car rental companies, taxis and airport vehicles. So SOCAR will serve directly the consumers in the world's largest airport with a capacity of transporting 200 million passengers a year.
Vagif Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SOCAR Turkey said that it will be the first time that they they will serve customers directly with the gas stations to be operated in the airport. Reminding that they entered Turkish market by acquisition of Petkim in 2018, Aliyev, remarked: “We have realized giant projects such as STAR Refinery, TANAP, Petlim Container Terminal, Petkim RES with a total investment of 14.2 billion dollars until now. We have been granted with the title of Turkey's first Private Industrial Zone for the area covering all projects of SOCAR Turkey in Aliaga, Izmir. Brother Turkey is an important country for us. I have a great pleasure to announce that we won the tender organized for gas stations in Istanbul Airport right after the opening of STAR Refinery, which was established with an investment of 6,3 billion dollars. It is a strategic and important step for us to have gas stations in Istanbul airport, world's largest airport, for recognition of our brand and getting together with consumers. Our company always evaluates the opportunities in the fuel oil industry and follows the developments in the market closely.'' We may have further investments to this industry in the following years.”
5 of 9 stations to be operated by SOCAR Turkey will be located on the apron, 1 in cargo transportation zone and 2 in the parking area, while 1 will serve for Taxi Drivers' Cooperative. SOCAR will operate in an area of 16.280 square meters in total with 9 stations to be commissioned from December 31, 2018. 5 of the stations to be operated by SOCAR Turkey in the apron zone will supply fuel to more than 4.000 vehicles of THY-TGS-Celebi-HAVA-IGA Ground Operators. The station, which will be established in an area of 5.000 square meters and located in the cargo city that is situated at west side of the airport and comprise of warehouses, agency buildings, customs offices, all logistic operations and social areas, will serve more than 1.000 vehicles of cargo companies, as well as airport passengers and their relatives. It is aimed at supplying fuel to1.200 rental cars of more than 30 car rental companies a day with two SOCAR stations located in the parking area, while this station will serve car rental companies and their customers. It is estimated that 10,000 vehicles a day will utilize all stations of SOCAR.
